Social media surveillance and employee privacy, medical marijuana in the workplace and Medicare set-asides will be among the many topics discussed at the American Bar Association’s 2016 Workers’ Compensation Mid-Winter Seminar and Conference scheduled March 11-12 in New Orleans.
The two-day conference will bring together attorneys, judges and industry experts from across the country to discuss what lies ahead in the changing landscape of workers’ compensation.
Seminars on the agenda include:
• “Loss Mitigation of High Value Workers’ Compensation Claim” — Panelists will discuss identifying high-value claims, including claims previously incapable of settlement and cost drivers such as ineffective prescription medications, and hidden Medicare set-aside costs.
• “Social Media Surveillance and Employee Privacy” — Panelists will discuss the use of social media in the workplace, looking at issues of brand management, employment agreements regarding social media, employee’s rights to privacy and publicity, privacy policies and use of social media in hiring.
• “New Marijuana Laws’ Impact in the Workplace” — Panelists will discuss how employers, insurance companies and unions are addressing the new marijuana laws. Among the questions are: have the drug-testing policies changed and can there still be mandatory drug-testing following an injury?
