The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s Law Review commemorated its centennial anniversary with a symposium on Friday, March 4, at the university’s Riverfront Campus in downtown Detroit. In celebration of the Law Review’s 100th year, this symposium showcased and discussed the past, present, and future legal issues facing the City of Detroit. Detroit Deputy Mayor Isaiah McKinnon (standing, second from right) gave the keynote address. Also taking part in the event were (seated, l-r) Brian Frye of University of Kentucky College of Law, Shaakirrah Sanders of University of Idaho College of Law, and Andrea Boyack of Washburn University School of Law; (standing) UDM Prof. Roy Finkenbine, Detroit Mercy Law Prof. Gary Maveal, symposium director Katherine Ross, Detroit Mercy Law Dean Phyllis Crocker, Law Review Editor-in-Chief Nina Gavrilovic, and UDM Assoc. Prof. Tom Stanton. In 1916, the Detroit Mercy Law Review was founded as a student organization which published the most important cases from Michigan’s circuit courts. Over time, the focus of the Law Review and its student editors evolved to address the legal issues facing Detroit, the State of Michigan, and the United States, and to find practical solutions.
