Warner Norcross attorneys co-author updated commentary on Estates and Protected Individuals Code
Attorneys Mark K. Harder and John H. Martin of Warner Norcross and Judd LLP have co-authored an updated edition of Estates and Protected Individuals Code with Reporters’’ Commentary for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
The recently released 2016 edition gives insight on the meaning of Michigan’s laws regarding probate, trusts, guardianships and conservatorships, and serves as a reference for attorneys and courts.
Harder is a partner and works out of the Holland office; he also chairs the firm’s Family Office Practice Group. His work involves counseling and representing those with high net worth, including individuals, family businesses and closely held businesses. He led efforts by the State Bar of Michigan to write the Michigan Trust Code and other legislation regulating the handling of trusts.
Martin works out of the firm’s Muskegon office. He has taught at several law schools, and at Ohio Northern University. He led efforts by the State Bar of Michigan to enact Michigan’s Probate Code and served on a number of State Bar of Michigan committees pertaining to probate and estate planning.
Both Harder and Martin have received accolades including election as Fellows of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and being named to Best Lawyers in America and Michigan Super Lawyers.
Nemeth featured in ICLE webcast on IRS appeals
Varnum tax attorney Eric Nemeth is a featured presenter on a recently-released webcast that provides an inside look into the IRS appeals process. The webcast is offered through the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) website and cosponsored by the State Bar of Michigan Taxation Section.
Based on the premise that contesting a case through the IRS appeals process is one of the most efficient, cost effective and practical ways to resolve a controversy with the IRS, the presentation includes information on how to work with the appeals officer, resolve ongoing tax controversies favorably and avoid common mistakes. Nemeth, a veteran tax attorney and chair of Varnum's tax team, has more than 20 years of experience representing clients before the IRS and state tax regulators in matters including examinations, appellate conferences, criminal investigations, witness representation and civil and criminal tax litigation. He formerly served as Senior Trial Attorney for the District Counsel of the IRS and as a Special Assistant U.S. attorney.
