There are over 4,000 missing persons actively reported as missing in Michigan and almost 300 unsolved unidentified remains cases. The Michigan State Police will host the 6th Annual "Missing in Michigan" event, 1 to 5 p.m. on May 14 at the Detroit Public Safety Headquarters, 1301 3rd Street, Detroit, as part of Missing Persons Awareness Month.
The free event, open to the public, is to raise awareness of the issues and impacts surrounding missing persons in Michigan. Families and friends affected by the unexplained disappearance of a loved one will be recognized.
Officers will take tips on old cases and information on new cases.Members from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System will be present to update the nationwide, searchable web database. Family members may bring photos, dental records, medical records or other identifying information.
Child ID kits will be provided free and community organizations that help with missing person cases will provide information on child safety.
Over 60 missing person cases have been resolved thanks to previous events held in Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids.
Family members of missing persons should pre-register by contacting D/Sgt. Sarah Krebs at 313-215-0675 or by emailing KrebsS@michigan.gov in order to ensure loved ones are commemorated during this event.
A private roundtable discussion will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for anyone with a missing loved one. Space is limited; RSVP to reserve a seat.
