An investiture ceremony was conducted recently for U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Stephanie Dawkins Davis (left), Eastern District of Michigan, at the Levin U.S. Courthouse in Detroit. Among those on hand to welcome Davis to the bench was U.S. District Court Chief Judge Denise Page Hood (right). Davis began her legal career as a civil defense attorney at Dickinson Wright PLLC. In 1997, she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan where she remained until her appointment to the bench. She served her first three years there in the office’s civil division before transferring to the criminal division in 2000. In 2010 she was appointed to serve as the executive assistant U.S. attorney. In that position, she oversaw a variety of law enforcement and community initiatives, led the office’s diversity efforts, redesigned and oversaw its legal intern program, and led the development of its Legal Fellows program. A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Davis received her law degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1992.
