GAYLORD (AP) — After seven convictions, a prosecutor doesn’t expect to pursue additional charges in a weekend of booze and ruin at a ski resort by University of Michigan students.
Other students might have joined in at Treetops Resort in 2015. But Otsego County prosecutor Mike Rola said recently that “knowing it and proving it are two different matters.”
Doors, furniture, fixtures and carpet were damaged when Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity partied at Treetops.
Five men pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property, and each must pay $5,000 to Treetops.
The last appeared in court in February. They were placed on probation and ordered to perform community service, including work in the Gaylord area.
The former president and treasurer of Sigma Alpha Mu pleaded guilty to alcohol-related charges. The fraternity was shut down.
