OCBA to present ‘Environmental Due Diligence’ seminar
When a client is ready to close, are you confident that they know all the environmental risks and liabilities associated with the piece of property? This program, presented by the Oakland County Bar Association’s Energy, Sustainability and Environmental Law Committee along with the OCBA’s Real Estate Committee, will cover the basics of environmental due diligence in real estate transactions. “Avoiding The Abyss: Environmental Due Diligence In Real Estate” takes place on Wednesday, June 15 from 4-6 p.m. at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills. Attorney Brian Considine of Dawda Mann, Counselors at Law, will cover the legal liabilities and risks associated with the sale and purchase of brownfields or properties with other environmental issues such as wetlands or endangered species. Nicholas Maloof, President and General Counsel of Associated Environmental Services, LLC will discuss assessing the environmental condition of real property though ASTM Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, natural resource assessments, and hazardous building material surveys and environmental insurance. David Michael, Esq. of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C. will teach attendees how to draft transactional documents to minimize environmental liabilities and spread risk. Van Tongeren is a two-time MHSAA State champion giant slalom and slalom (1997, 1998), Mid-American Cup Jr. Champion, Rocky Mountain/Central Trophy Series Jr. Champion, U.S. Ski Team Jr. Development Team (1998), and 2001 RMISA All Conference at Western State College of Colorado.
