Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus recently presented a check to the Detroit College Promise to help students attend college. In May, WMU-Cooley held a charity fundraiser called FUNDS – Financing the Undergraduate Needs of Detroit Scholars. The event raised more than $5,150 for the scholarship that helps Detroit Public School students who would otherwise not be able to afford undergraduate school. On hand for the check presentation were (left to right) Pamela Moore, Detroit Public Schools Foundation president and CEO; WMU-Cooley Law School student Paul Spann; Remy Sirls-Boulbol, Detroit Public Schools Foundation development director; WMU-Cooley Law School student Jawwad Khan; Lisa Halushka, WMU-Cooley Law School assistant dean; and WMU Cooley Law School students Jacqueline Snyder-Powdhar and Arturo Alfaro. The scholarship will be awarded each year to a graduate of a Detroit public school who has expressed an interest in attending law school after college.
