The Wayne County Circuit Court Family Division will re-open the Assigned House Counsel list in 2017. All attorneys wishing to be placed on the Assigned House Counsel list must complete the application process even if you are on the current Assigned House Counsel list. All completed applications must be received by the Case Processing Office on 7th floor of the Coleman Municipal Center, Room 770, no later than Feb. 3, 2017.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS All applicants must submit proof of and/or complete the following:
1.Attorney in good standing with the Michigan State Bar;
2.CAP Certification you must have CAP certification as follows:
A.If you have been practicing law for less than 10 years, you must complete 6 CAP seminars in a calendar year.
B.If you have been practicing law for 10 years or more, you must complete 4 CAP seminars in a calendar year.
3.Attend the Annual Wayne County Family Division House Counsel Training on Oct. 7, 2016 from 2 4:30 p.m. in the 13th floor CAYMC Auditorium information below;
4.Current malpractice insurance;
5.Fully completed Attorney Profile Form, (available in the Case Processing Office);
All applicants must familiarize themselves with the Friend of the Court Motion Packets available outside Room 900A of CAYMC.
Please note:
1.Incomplete applications will be returned; attachments will not be accepted at a later date.
2.Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance onto the Assigned House Counsel List.
3.The Assigned House Counsel List will not reopen again until 2020.
Annual Mandatory Assigned House Counsel Training on Oct. 7, 2016
In a continuing effort to improve the services to the litigants of the Family Division, this year's MANDATORY (FAMILY DIVISION) Assigned Counsel Training will be held on Friday, Oct. 7, 2014 from 2-4:30 p.m. in the Auditorium on the 13th floor of the Coleman A Young Municipal Center. This training is mandatory for anyone wishing to apply to be on the Domestic Relations Division Assigned House Counsel List. This training will cover all issues handled on the Personal Protection Order Docket, the Show Cause Docket, and Parenting Time Show Causes. This training will NOT count toward CAP certification. Certificates of Completion will be presented at the end of the Training. Photo I.D. will be necessary at check in. If you show up late or leave during the presentation, you will not be given a certificate and will not be eligible for the Assigned House Counsel List. For any individual unable to attend the Oct. 7, 2016, training, a detailed letter of explanation for make-up training is to be made directly to the Hon. Kathleen M. McCarthy, 1813 CAYMC, Detroit, MI 48226 or via email to Kathleen.McCarthy@3rdcc.org. Judge McCarthy will consider each request personally for emergency issues only and advise whether or not make-up training is permitted. General scheduling conflicts should be resolved now and will not be considered for make-up training.
