Firm co-hosts Michigan Defense Industry AUSA reception in Washington

Butzel Long is co-hosting the 2016 Michigan Defense Industry 5th Annual Arsenal of Innovation Reception at the AUSA Annual Exposition on Monday, October 3, 2016 at The Army & Navy Club in Washington, D.C.
Military and defense industry leaders are expected to attend the invitation-only reception when the Association of United States Army (AUSA) National Annual Meeting takes place next week. Other reception co-hosts  include: the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Defense Center and Macomb County. The event also is supported by the Macomb County Chamber, Detroit Regional Chamber and Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce.

“Warren, in Macomb County, is the home of United States Army Detroit Arsenal,” said Beth S. Gotthelf, chair of Butzel Long’s Aerospace and Defense Industry Team. “The Detroit Arsenal houses the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) and TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC), providing ‘cradle-to-grave’ support to America's armed forces and ensuring Army readiness.

“With Detroit Arsenal in our backyard, Michigan is known nationally as a hub for manufacturing in the Defense Industry,” she said. “This event is an opportunity for government and private defense industry leaders to come together and discuss doing business in Michigan and protecting our service men and women.”

Free legal help for child support issues

The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic is coordinating with Wayne County Friend of the Court to conduct a child support help program on Saturday, Oct. 22, in the “Friends Auditorium” of the Detroit Public Library, 5201 Woodward Ave., from 1–4 p.m.

There will be a brief informational session on being proactive with child support and paternity issues. Participants will then have the opportunity to consult one-on-one with volunteer family law attorneys. These attorneys will answer questions on child support, parenting time, and custody issues and help participants fill out legal forms.

Child support professionals will be on site to register participants on the MiChildSupport website, and there will be staff dedicated to assisting the public with completing “Michigan State Discharge of Arrearage” packets.

This program is one in a series of free child support help programs supported by community service agencies including Wayne County Head Start, JVS Jewish Vocational Service, Detroit Head Start Fatherhood Initiative, Wayne County Friend of the Court, Abundant Children and Family Services Agency, Wayne County Mediation Center, Wayne County Jury Services, Young Fathers Standing United, Family Alliance for Change, and Wayne County Community College District.
