Office hours extended for voter registration

Macomb County/Register of Deeds Carmella Sabaugh will keep her office open until midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to accept voter registration forms.

That’s the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 presidential election.

“Your vote is your voice, but you must register to make your voice heard,” said Sabaugh. “Representative government is not a spectator sport. Everyone needs to get in the game.”

Macomb County currently has 624,000 registered voters.

In October, 2008, Macomb County had 610,000 registered voters and in 2012, there were 617,000.

Michigan residents do not have to declare a political party preference when registering to vote and are free to vote a straight-ticket or a mixed-ticket on the partisan section of the ballot if they wish.
Voter registration forms can be downloaded from www.michigan.gov/documents/MIVoterRegistration and submitted in person until midnight, Oct. 11 at the Macomb County Court Building, 40 North Main, Mount Clemens, MI 48043.

Sabaugh also reminded voters of the option to submit an absentee ballot. She said 113,000 county voters chose that route in 2012.

Absentee ballot application forms can be downloaded from www.michigan.gov/documents/sos/AVApp and mailed, with a return envelope, to the clerk’s office.
