University of Detroit Mercy School of Law today will host Nurjahan Khatun for a discussion about the acid attack she suffered in her native Bangladesh.
The presentation is scheduled from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in Room 226 of the school’s downtown Detroit campus.
At the age of nine, Khatun was the unintended target of an acid attack in Bangladesh.
She was sleeping in the same bed as her cousin, who was 13 at the time. Her cousin had declined a man’s marriage proposal. The acid that flew through the bedroom window was meant for her cousin.
Both girls suffered life threatening acid burns and serious disfigurement.
Khatun is now in her 20s. She was granted asylum to live in the U.S. in 2011.
