Access to Bankruptcy Court (ABC), a State Bar of Michigan “Access to Justice” program, recently hosted its Annual Wine Tasting, Silent Auction and Charity Networking Event at the law offices of Stevenson & Bullock PLC in Southfield. Among those helping to raise funds for ABC were (left to right) Winnifred Boylan of Lambert Leser; Alesia Dobbins of U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Michigan; Tracy Clark of Steinberg, Shapiro, & Clark; Anthony Kochis of Wolfson Bolton PLLC; U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Marci McIvor, Eastern District of Michigan; Michael Stevenson of Stevenson & Bullock; Lauren Rousseau of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School; Jim Plemmons of Dickinson Wright PLLC; Karen Evangelista of Karen E. Evangelista PC; Ethan Dunn of Maxwell Dunn PLC; and Janet Ziulkowski of Ziulkowski & Associates PLC. ABC was formed after local attorneys, judges and educators recognized a need for poverty-stricken individuals suffering financial hardship to have essential legal representation in bankruptcy matters. With the assistance of experienced bankruptcy attorneys donating time and resources, ABC helps the impoverished obtain the financial fresh start they need through education, debt relief assistance and bankruptcy. “These people are typically living at or just above poverty. They can’t afford to have a bankruptcy attorney or seasoned professional represent them so we provide that service for them free,” said Ziulkowski, an ABC board member.
