Man acquitted in 1988 fatal shooting over drug debt
PAW PAW, Mich. (AP) — A man who was a witness for prosecutors and had immunity for his testimony about a 1988 southwestern Michigan slaying has been acquitted of murder in the case.
A jury this week returned the verdict in the case of Guy Carl Simpson in Van Buren County Circuit Court. He was charged last year in the slaying of 22-year-old Charles Paul Miller of Bangor.
Authorities say Simpson was one of three men who lured Miller into a marijuana field in Allegan County’s Lee Township, shot him in the back of the head because of a drug debt and buried his body. Arrests first were made in the case in 2000.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports another defendant, Junior Fred Blackston, is awaiting sentencing Feb. 22 after a plea agreement.
Man pleads guilty in slayings of his 2 kids, 2 stepchildren
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) — An ex-convict has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the slayings of his two young children and two stepchildren at his suburban Detroit home.
Gregory Green also pleaded guilty Wednesday to torture and assault in an attack on his wife.
Green’s biological children, 5-year-old Koi Green and 4-year-old Kaleigh Green, died from carbon monoxide poisoning in September in the Dearborn Heights home.
His stepchildren — 19-year-old Chadney Allen and 17-year-old Kara Allen — were fatally shot in front of their mother, Faith Green. She also was the mother of Koi and Kaleigh.
Faith Green was shot and slashed with a box cutter, but survived. She'd previously filed for divorce.
Gregory Green was released from prison in 2008 after serving 16 years for killing his first wife, who was pregnant.
His sentencing is scheduled for March 1.
