Students compete in patent drafting event

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law’s International Intellectual Property Law Clinic, in conjunction with the Elijah J. McCoy U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, hosted the Second Annual International Patent Drafting Competition Feb. 10-11. A kick-off reception took place at the Detroit Mercy Law atrium. Among those celebrating the start of the competition were (front row, left to right) Liz Arnkoff, Shikha Somnai, Julia Dierker, Juliet Kavanaugh and John Chau, along with (second row, left to right) Detroit Mercy Law Assistant Dean Denise Hickey, Rod Wittenberg, Jennifer Taylor, Kelly Burris and Kevin MacKenzie; in addition to (back row, left to right) Clinic Director Wissam Aoun, Mark Harper, John Wright and Joe Dierker. The competition provided student teams the opportunity to present their patent applications in front of a panel of judges comprised of patent examiners and practitioners.
