The Jackson law firm of Curtis, Curtis and Brelinski, P.C. traces its roots to 1901, when former Jackson County Probate Court Judge and U-M?Law grad George H. Curtis opened his law practice in downtown Jackson. His son, Robert N. Curtis, also an MLaw grad, later joined his father’s law practice, and in 1970 his son, Philip joined the firm.
Robert’s brother, Philip Campbell Curtis, born 1907 in Jackson, received a B.A. from Albion College where he had his first contact with painting.
After a year at the University of Michigan Law School, he enrolled at Yale University School of Art, and had a career as an arts administrator, and then as an artist.
An exhibit—“Philip C. Curtis Coming Home”— can be seen through March 12 at the Ganton Art Gallery at Spring Arbor University, 106 E Main, Spring Arbor. The exhibit includes interactive stations, a family art guide created by the Jackson School of the Arts and a PBS documentary on Philip C. Curtis’ life and art.
The free exhibit is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
