Two area attorneys appointed to federal judgeship panel

Rodger D. Young, founder of the Farmington Hills based Young & Associates, and E. Powell Miller, founder of The Miller Law Firm in Rochester Hills, have been appointed to a committee tasked with screening applicants and making recommendations for federal judgeships in the Eastern District of Michigan.

“I am honored to have been appointed to serve our country in this important and impactful way,” said Young. “Our federal judges play a vital role in decisions that affect each of our lives every single day.”
Miller echoed the comments: “I take this role and responsibility very seriously,” said Miller. “This appointment is a tremendous opportunity to carefully and thoughtfully guide the decision-making process for our federal judges, who serve a critical role in interpreting our country’s laws.”

The committee is currently reviewing candidates to fill the seat held by the retiring Judge Gerald Rosen.

Young was nominated to serve on the committee by Congressman David Trott, who represents the 11th District of Michigan, and Miller

was nominated by Congressman Mike Bishop, who represents the 8th District of Michigan.

Young founded his firm in 1991, and has earned numerous state and national distinctions, including Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, election to the American College of Trial Lawyers, and was selected as one of the 25 Leaders in the Law in Michigan.

His experience includes gubernatorial appointments to the Michigan Environmental Review Board, the Michigan Transportation Commission, and a presidential appointment by former President George W. Bush to serve as a United States Ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly in 2007-08.

Miller focuses his practice on all aspects of litigation and has been consistently named one of the Top 10 lawyers in Michigan by Super Lawyers Magazine, and in 2010 and 2015, he was the recipient of the Best Lawyers – Lawyer of the Year in the category of Bet-the-Company Litigation.

Miller is co-president of the Detroit Chapter of the Federal Bar Association Antitrust Committee, serves on the Executive Committee for the Wayne State University Law School Board of Visitors, and lectures at the University of Michigan Law School.
