In Memoriam: Honorable Thomas H. Linck, 1932-2017 Muskegon County Probate Court Judge (retired)

The Honorable Thomas H. Linck of Norton Shores passed away peacefully April 1, 2017, at Lourdes Senior Community in Waterford, Mich. He was 84.

Linck was born in Ravenna on August 18, 1932, the youngest child of S.J. and Maude (Finkler) Linck. He was raised in Ravenna and later attended St. Norbert University and the University of Notre Dame. Upon receiving his B.A. from Western Michigan University, he served his country in the U.S. Army prior to graduating from Marquette University with a law degree.

He began his career as an attorney in the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office before joining his brother, Leo, in private practice at Linck & Linck Law. In June 1975, he was appointed a Probate Court Judge of Muskegon County where he served until his retirement in 1996. During his tenure, he was president of both the Michigan Probate Judge's Association and the Michigan Judges Association. Linck was active in the community and served as the president of the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District Board of Education. He was a member of the Serra Club, Elks Club, Right to Life of Michigan and a supporter of the American Red Cross. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church and a long-term supporter of Muskegon Catholic Central.

Judge Linck was the youngest of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by brother Leo and Leo’s wife Teresa, sister Helen (Pierson) and her husband Ike, sister Agatha (Denhof) and husband Norb, brother John and his wife Phyllis (survived) and brother Sylvester and wife Jeanette. He is survived by his sister Irene (LaValley, Petelle) Linck. Tom was married to Patricia Harrington on September 14, 1963, in Muskegon.

He is survived by his six children: Christine (Linck) Kratzenberg and her husband Ken of Atlanta, Ga., and grandchildren Kellie and Jack; Thomas of Grand Rapids; Elizabeth (Linck) Berg and her husband John of Bloomfield Hills and granddaughter Kathryn; Mary (Linck) Walker and her husband Jeff of Colorado Springs, Colo., and two grandchildren Lauren and Adam; Bill and his wife Kendra Eckerd of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mike and his wife Shannon (Harthorn) of Traverse City with three grandchildren Maria, Evie and Tommy. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held at The Walburn Chapel on Sherman Blvd. Tuesday, April 4th with a rosary service following. A funeral mass was held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 5th, followed by a reception at Muskegon Country Club.

The family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Michigan.
