Mika Meyers welcomes Randall Velzen as new attorney
Attorney Randall L. Velzen has joined Mika Meyers PLC, a law firm based in Grand Rapids, as a member.
Velzen practices almost exclusively in the area of family law, including estate planning. He helps his clients through the often-complicated divorce process and is highly experienced with such matters as custody issues, property divisions and support. Velzen was one of the first attorneys in West Michigan to complete collaborative law training through the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan (CPIM), the state organization for Collaborative professionals. He is past President of CPIM. In addition, Randy is part of the training team PRISM, LLC, which trains professionals for collaborative divorce.
Velzen is a founding member of the Collaborative Divorce Professionals of West Michigan. He is currently the President Elect of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, and formerly chaired the Young Lawyers Section, as well as serving as a member of many other committees.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College and his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School.
Velzen has also received several prestigious awards, including the President’s Award from the Grand Rapids Bar Association in 2011 and Legal Aid of Western Michigan’s Michael S. Barnes Award in 2003; and he was named a 2014 Most Influential Attorney by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
In addition, Velzen has served on the Michigan Supreme Court’s Conciliation Workgroup on Friend of the Courts’ conciliation practice and its Task Force on Court Rules for Collaborative Practice and Title of Domestic Relations Litigation.
