Hard work pays off

A Wayne State University Law School Moot Court team took home the National Best Brief Award and finished as quarterfinalists at the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition. After winning the regional competition in Boston last month, the team of second-year student Jonathan Demers (right) of Detroit, and third-year students Amy Huang (center) of Farmington Hills, and Chris Rambus (left) of Detroit, competed against 23 other regional champion teams at the national final competition. Demers was honored as a Top 10 Oral Advocate. Kevin Carlson, Wayne Law class of 2004, served as the team’s alumni coach. The finals took place in Chicago Thursday, April 6, through Saturday, April 8. This is the first year Wayne Law has advanced to the national finals. “These students worked tirelessly, along with their coach, to hone their skills and be able to discuss the law and policy in depth and persuade the panels of judges,” said Megan Canty, director of academic success and bar exam preparation. “We are very proud of their results.”
