Josh Burgett, Jackson economic development advocate, tapped to lead Michigan Land Bank
Josh Burgett’s ability to work with a diverse set of stakeholders on economic development through the Jackson Anchor Initiative and other groups will serve the state well at the helm of the Michigan Land Bank, said Roger Curtis, director of the Michigan Department of Talent and Economic Development (TED).
Burgett last month became the director of the Land Bank, part of TED, leading the team and executing the strategic vision of the Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority Board of Directors.
“Josh knows how to collaborate with community leaders in both the public and private sectors to make things happen, and we’re proud to bring his talents and drive to the Michigan Land Bank,” Curtis said. “He gained tremendous experience in Jackson, and he’s ready to apply what he’s learned across the state.”
Burgett was chair of the board of directors for the Jackson Anchor Initiative, an effort to transform the city’s downtown by focusing on market rate housing in existing buildings with multi-use opportunities. Placemaking, especially in urban downtowns, is important in attracting the talent businesses need.
Burgett continues as chair of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and serves on the Experience Jackson Board of Directors.
The Grass Lake native worked at the Michigan International Speedway for 11 years, last serving as vice president of business development and partnerships. He was part of the team that turned the speedway, Michigan’s largest sports and entertainment facility, into a year-round destination. “I’m excited about serving Michiganders in this new role,” he said.
The Michigan Land Bank promotes economic growth through acquisition, assembly and disposal of public property, including tax reverted property, in a coordinated manner to foster development that helps communities grow and thrive.
