A bench and tree in honor of the late Michael J. Lavoie, a longtime attorney with Butzel Long, were dedicated recently during a special ceremony at Springdale Golf Course in Birmingham. The sun-splashed ceremony drew scores of Lavoie’s friends for a lasting tribute to the Peace Corps veteran and youth mentor. Lavoie, who died of a heart attack last fall at the age of 63, was an avid golfer, and the specially inscribed bench and adjoining plantings will serve as a loving reminder of him near the ninth tee box at Springdale. The bench and plantings were a gift from his cast of friends in the Friday night “Fight True” golf group, which includes various members of the Detroit area bench and bar. Lavoie’s wife, Kristin, and his twin brother, Rob, are pictured after the ceremony, along with Kristin’s son, Elliott Fernandes, and his girlfriend, Danielle Abela.
