Varnum’s Sawusch appointed to ABA?Burn Prevention Committee

Varnum Personal Injury Attorney Bonnie Y. Sawusch was recently appointed to the Burn Prevention Committee of the American Burn Association (ABA).

Dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by burn injury, ABA leadership is made up primarily of doctors, nurses and others in the medical profession. The Burn Prevention Committee is charged by the ABA to provide direction in the area of burn prevention; gather and disseminate information related to burn awareness, prevention, and survival; assist in the development of burn prevention programs on the local, regional, national and international levels; and to serve as a resource to members and affiliated organizations in the field of burn prevention.

Members of the committee are selected and appointed by the President of the ABA and its Board of Trustees. Sawusch was formerly appointed to the committee in 2013 and was reappointed last month by ABA President Linwood R. Haith, Jr., MD.

For more than 20 years, Sawusch has represented people and their families who have been affected by catastrophic personal injury, including burn injuries. Her legal practice is strongly influenced by her previous 15-year career as a critical care nurse in a large acute care hospital. In addition to her law degree, she holds a B.S. in Nursing and continues to maintain her license to practice as a registered nurse.

As a frequent lecturer and writer, Sawusch is actively involved in educational programs for medical and legal professionals. She is recognized by Michigan Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers® and has attained an AV-Preeminent™ rating from Martindale Hubbell. She was twice recognized by Best Lawyers® as “Lawyer of the Year” for Personal Injury Litigation, and along with her Varnum personal injury attorney colleagues, was a recipient of the 2016 Pamela Pucci Service Award presented by the University of Michigan Trauma Burn Center in recognition of their longstanding support and commitment to the center. Sawusch also serves on the Burn Prevention Task Force for the International Association of Fire Fighters.
