In celebration of the 26th Annual Bias Awareness & Inclusion Week, the Washtenaw County Bar Association held a meeting and strolling reception on Oct. 19 at Weber’s Inn in Ann Arbor, hosted jointly with the Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association and Women Lawyers Association of Michigan Washtenaw Region. ACLU of Michigan Executive Director Kary L. Moss was the keynote speaker. The week also included “The Impact of Free Speech vs. Hate Speech in America,” presented by The Vanzetti M. Hamilton Bar Association & University of Michigan Black Law Students Alliance, featuring Angie Martell, Iglesia Martell Law Firm; Loren Khoghali, President of the ACLU of Michigan and Portia Robinson, Executive Director of the City of Detroit’s Department of Civil Rights, Inclusion & Opportunity; and the 18th Annual Enhancement of Police and Community Trust (ENPACT) Public Forum, “The Importance of Law Enforcement Building Trust While Hate Groups are on the Rise,” with a panel moderated by Prof. Ronald C. Woods, Eastern Michigan University.
