Detroit program looks to plant 10,000 trees over three years

DETROIT (AP) — City officials plan to spend about $3 million annually over the next three years to plant 10,000 young trees across Detroit.

The initiative was announced Monday and includes replacing 10,000 or more trees left damaged by storms, disease, age or the emerald ash borer.

More than 900 trees already have been planted. Detroit residents also are being asked where new trees should be planted.

Residents can ask to have trees planted in front of their homes or anywhere on their blocks to help beautify neighborhoods.
