FLINT (AP) — A 2015 inspection report had warned that the Thread Lake Dam in Flint was in poor condition years before it breached during flooding last month.
The Flint Journal reports that a field inspection three years ago identified maintenance issues at the dam's embankments, spillways and control structures. Records from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality show the report recommended the city address the issues.
The coalition is monitoring water quality and conditions at the lake and Thread Creek after the breach.
City spokeswoman Kristin Moore says Flint is working with an engineering firm and state officials to determine a solution to repair the dam.
