Warner partners with WMed Innovation Center for Lunch-and-Learns
Warner Norcross + Judd LLP is partnering with the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine Innovation Center for a lunch-and-learn series to help technology startups be more successful in business.
The series, which started March 27, features six different events throughout 2018 on topics critical for business startups. Warner thought leaders in capital formation, venture capital, intellectual property, labor and employment, executive compensation, tax and other practice areas will lead each session.
“We are excited about this opportunity to partner with the WMed Innovation Center and connect with entrepreneurs in the Kalamazoo community,” said Josie Boucher, a partner at Warner who focuses her practice in corporate and securities law with emphasis on representing emerging growth companies.
The sessions will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the WMed Innovation Center, 4717 Campus Drive. The March session was “Vital Steps for Investment and Acquisition” with Boucher and attorney Catherine Collins and business development consultant Kevin Conway, and in April, Boucher spoke on “Financing Your Startup: Venture Capital Basics.”
Remaining sessions are on June 21, “Intellectual Property for Startups,” with Catherine Collins; July 19, “Key Employment Issues for Startup Companies,” with attorneys Pam Enslen and Lou Rabaut; Sept. 20 “Equity Compensation for Startups,” by attorneys Justin Stemple and Loren Andrulis; and Nov. 8, “Tax from Startups to Full-Fledged Companies,” with Matt Johnson.
The WMed Innovation Center is designed to provide the support necessary for success to technology entrepreneurs in the earliest stages of development. The Center provides shared working space and thousands of square feet of laboratory and office space, allowing early stagetechnology companies to find the right kind of support at the right cost.
“The Warner entrepreneurial lunch-and-learn series is the most recent addition to the suite of programs offered at the Innovation Center and supported by community partners,” said Sandra Cochrane, assistant dean of the WMed Innovation Center. “Without the engagement of partners and sponsors like Warner, the Innovation Center would not be able to provide such specialized education and training to the entrepreneurial community in Southwest Michigan.”
