Royal salute

A retirement reception in honor of Michael J. Talbot (second from left), chief judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals, was held last month at the University of Detroit School of Law, his alma mater. Talbot, an alumnus of Georgetown University, retired in April, capping a distinguished 40-year career on the bench. Appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1998, Talbot formerly served as a judge in the Wayne County Circuit Court and the Detroit Common Pleas Court, now known as the 36th District Court. A former member of the Judicial Tenure Commission, Talbot served as the special judicial administrator over the 36th District Court in 2013-14, helping restructure its operations. He will serve as the commencement speaker at the law school’s graduation ceremony on May 11. Pictured with Talbot at the reception were (left to right) Elizabeth Clement, recently appointed justice of the Michigan Supreme Court; Detroit Mercy Law Dean Phyllis Crocker; and state Supreme Court Justice Kurtis Wilder, who was appointed to the high court in May 2017.
