JACKSON (AP) — Police officers in a southern Michigan city now are using body cameras.
Jackson Director of Police and Fire Services Elmer Hitt tells the Jackson Citizen Patriot that police officers are wearing the cameras while on duty following training in June.
The Jackson City Council earlier this year approved a contract for equipment, licenses, media storage and warranties. The city is getting 42 body cameras, which would be enough to allow each officer to have one while on duty.
They're also going to get new in-car systems. Once the new in-car cameras are implemented this fall, footage will be uploaded through cloud-based storage.
