Family law attorney launches mediation firm

Family law attorney and mediator Susan E. Paletz is shifting her focus to concentrate on mediation.

Rebranding as Mediator To Go, Paletz, who led the Paletz Law Firm for 20 years and has practiced law since 1982, is providing mediation services at locations convenient to attorneys and clients throughout the tri-county area. Paletz is a magna cum laude graduate of Wayne State University Law School. She is known for the variety of snacks she provides, which she is now bringing to mediations in custom boxes. Over the years she has found that food has a calming effect on people in stressful situations.

"I'm thrilled to make this transition, so I can work effectively with couples to resolve issues in the dissolution of their marriage, and develop appropriate parenting plans for minor children," Paletz says. "In mediation, we can reach creative, workable resolutions."

In addition to mediating more traditional cases where clients appear with attorneys, Paletz also mediates for parties who do not want to include counsel.

"In these situations, mediation is a wonderful alternative for couples where there is no issue of domestic abuse, who are fairly equal in their skills, who have knowledge of the marital estate and who have limited funds," Paletz says.

To launch Mediator To Go, Paletz is hosting a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 5-7:30 p.m., at Andiamo Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills. Attendees are ask to respond to Susan@MediatorToGo.com.

In her career Paletz has presented family law seminars throughout North America, spoken at the S.M.I.L.E. program created by the Oakland County Circuit Court, and written articles for publications of the Oakland County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan.

Paletz is well-established in the practice of family law and well-known in the legal community as an effective mediator. She has years of experience as a parenting coordinator as well, and in negotiating parenting plans in high-conflict cases.
