The Oakland County Adult Treatment Court (ATC) recently conducted its 55th graduation since its inception in August of 2001. Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Hala Jarbou (front row, third from left) was among the judges to preside over the ceremony for the 282nd through the 291st graduates on July 11 in the Board of Commissioners’ Auditorium at the Oakland County Courthouse in Pontiac. The ATC offers a sentencing alternative for non-violent felony offenders with serious substance abuse problems. Without the ATC program, these individuals would otherwise be facing time in prison. Beyond close judicial and community supervision and substance-abuse treatment, frequent substance abuse testing is required. In addition, the participants are expected to find and maintain employment, pay court costs, including restitution to the victims of their crimes, and take responsibility for the support of their children.
