Home nurse pleads guilty of tampering with Valium

GRAND RAPIDS (AP) — A nurse who took Valium for her own use and diluted the medicine for others has pleaded guilty to tampering with a consumer product.

The Grand Rapids Press says Kristie Ann Mollohan of Kalamazoo pleaded guilty last week in federal court.

Police say she was a home-health nurse in 2016 when a four-year-old boy in her care died of seizures after his medication was diluted. But prosecutors acknowledged that they can’t prove Mollohan's conduct resulted in the death.

She admits removing liquid Valium, also known as diazepam, from three patients. The medicine was supposed to be used to suppress their seizures.

Mollohan told investigators that she diverted the drug because she was depressed about family problems.

Detroit man charged in go-kart crash that killed daughter

DETROIT (AP) — Prosecutors say a Detroit man has been formally charged with drunken driving and child abuse after he crashed a go-kart carrying his two daughters into a parked car, killing one of them.

They said 29-year-old Ollante Arvell Young was arraigned Thursday and ordered held on a $100,000 cash/surety bond.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Sept. 6 and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Sept. 11.

The crash occurred at around 3 a.m. Wednesday on the city's west side. It killed 4-year-old Autumn Young and injured her 5-year-old sister.

Prosecutors say the go-kart had one seat and no headlights or seatbelts.

Student finds five-foot snake in dorm room

CLINTON, N.Y. (AP) — A college student in central New York had to collect a 5-foot -long boa constrictor from a local wildlife center after a fellow student found the pet reptile hiding behind her dorm room refrigerator.

Syracuse.com reports that a student at Hamilton College found the snake last week and called campus safety for help.

Campus Safety Director Francis Coots says it turns out the snake is owned by another student, who kept it in a plastic tote. Coots says having an animal other than a service animal is against campus rules, and the student could face disciplinary charges.

The boa was turned over to a wildlife center where the owner plans to collect it. The snake will then go to live with the student's parents.
