The Society of Active Retirees (SOAR) presented “The Second Amendment on Trial” as part of the Harry Cook Social Justice Series recently at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills. The special program was made possible by a grant from the Oakland County Bar Foundation. The format of the event was a mock trial with the audience acting as the jury. Taking on roles in the trial were (left to right) attorney Steve Steinhardt, producer; Wayne State University Law School Prof. Robert Sedler, the prosecutor; St. Clair Shores Chief of Police Todd Woodcox, witness #2; attorney Annmarie Thursam; attorney John Brennan, the defense; attorney James Biernat; Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Carl Marlinga, witness #1; and attorney Christopher Nesi. SOAR is a lifelong learning program affiliated with Wayne State University.
