On Oct. 30, Wheeler Upham, P.C., founded in Grand Rapids in 1883, was recognized by the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce as one of the first-ever recipients of the Chamber’s EPIC Industry Legacy Award. Wheeler Upham was honored for 135 continuous years of providing legal counsel in Grand Rapids. (See Grand Rapids Legal News 10/10/2018.)
Accepting the award for Wheeler Upham were Glenn Smith and Michael TerBeek, shareholders of the firm. Smith thanked the many leaders of the firm over the decades. He went on to say, “Wheeler Upham is honored to have supported and represented the citizens and businesses of Grand Rapids and surrounding areas for 135 years as Grand Rapids’ oldest continuously operating law firm.”
The event was part of the dinner and reception for the annual EPIC (Entrepreneurial, Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative) Awards hosted by the Grand Rapids Chamber. Another Industry Legacy Award went to Mercy Health, and 31 entrepreneurs and organizations were finalists for seven EPIC Awards recognizing outstanding success stories and contributions to the thriving economy in West Michigan. The event, which drew over 260 attendees, was held at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
