'Safe Ride Home' program returns for the holiday

Christensen Law in Southfield is bringing back its popular “Safe Ride Home” program.

Through this drunk driving awareness program, the firm reimburses individuals for rides home with a taxi or ride sharing service on certain holidays like Thanksgiving Eve — a popular night for parties and alcohol use.

Founder David Christensen also announced that his firm has extended the program beyond metropolitan Detroit.

This year, the program will be offered in Washtenaw, Genesee, Bay and Kent counties.

Both Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and Genesee County Sheriff Robert J. Pickell have endorsed the initiative for this Thanksgiving holiday.

Safe Ride Home launched in 2015 and continued through 2016. Christiansen said the program has helped more than 1,000 people get home safely.

As a personal injury lawyer, Christensen said he has seen first-hand how devastating a drunk driving incident can be in the lives of families he has served.

This is how the program works:

• Those who might have had too much to drink on Thanksgiving Eve are encouraged to call a cab, Lyft or Uber to take them home from the bar.

• They must pay for the ride that night and get a receipt.

• The next day, the person should email a copy of their receipt along with a copy of their driver’s license to saferidehome@davidchristensenlaw.com to receive a
reimbursement of up to $35.

Restrictions:

• Offer is good from 4 p.m. today to Thursday, Nov. 22 at 4 a.m.

• To be eligible, a person must be at least 21 years old.

• Maximum reimbursement is $35, good for a one-way ride home. This reimbursement cannot be combined with other offers.

• Receipts must be received by Christensen Law by midnight, Sunday, Nov. 25 to be eligible for reimbursement.

• Rides must be within Wayne, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, Genesee, Bay and Kent counties.

• Provider of ride must be a licensed taxi company, Uber or Lyft.

• A copy of the official taxi company, Uber or Lyft receipt, along with a copy of the person’s valid driver’s license, must be emailed to home@davidchristensenlaw.com OR the
materials must be sent via U.S. Mail to Christensen Law Safe Ride Home, 25925 Telegraph Rd., Suite 200, Southfield, MI 48033.

Materials must be received by midnight, Sunday, November 25. Call Christensen Law at 248.213.4900 for more details.
