Worthy to hold community town hall meeting
NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy will give a presentation on school threats, domestic violence and sexual assault kits during a town hall meeting in suburban Detroit.
The town hall is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Northville Township Hall and is part of a series of meetings throughout Wayne County.
Worthy also is expected to discuss how her office operates and other topics like the use of body worn cameras, home invasions and the prosecutor’s newly formed Business Protection Unit.
Residents in the nearby communities of Northville, Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Canton Township, Livonia and Redford Township are invited to attend Thursday’s town hall.
Future meetings will be held in Detroit and other Wayne County communities.
Jingle Mingle set for November 29 at Hard Rock Café
The Detroit Bar Association will ring in the yuletide with its annual Jingle Mingle Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 29 at Hard Rock Café in Campus Martius.
The event will run from 5:30-8 p.m. at the downtown eatery, which is located at 45 Monroe Street. Registration costs $30 for Detroit Bar members and $40 for non-members. The cost includes hors d’oeuvres and one drink ticket. Parking will be validated in the Visitor Parking Structure for Hard Rock Café on Farmer and Monroe Street.

Michigan State’s ex-president Lou Anna Simon appears in court
Michigan State University’s former president has appeared in court on charges alleging that she lied about what she knew during the investigation into sexual assault allegations against former sports doctor Larry Nassar.
Lou Anna Simon is accused of lying to investigators during an interview in May. She’s charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors. Her lawyer says the charges have no merit.
The arraignment lasted roughly 10 minutes Monday in an Eaton County court. Simon acknowledged that the felonies carry a maximum punishment of four years in prison but made no further remarks. She hasn’t entered a plea yet and is due back in court Dec. 18.
Authorities say Simon knew in 2014 that Nassar had been accused of molesting a woman at a campus clinic. Simon told state police in May that she only knew that a complaint had been filed against a sports doctor. Nassar is in prison for molesting young women and girls.
