Court joins kiosk network for e-payment of fines, fees

The 36th District Court in Detroit has joined the DivDat Kiosk Network, a high-tech “no fee” electronic payments solutions provider.

Court officials say this new service eliminates the need for individuals with outstanding debt owed to the court to travel to the courthouse, pay for parking, go through security and wait in line.

Instead, fines and fees can be paid at more than 50 kiosks located throughout the metropolitan Detroit area.

Once a name is typed or a driver’s license bar code is entered, the kiosk will automatically display any balanced owed.

The DivDat kiosks are linked in real time with the court’s case management system to provide current amounts owed. The user may choose to pay with cash or credit/debit card and will receive a printed or emailed payment receipt.

“We are very excited and proud to be the first court to partner with DivDat and take advantage of this technology to offer the public a more convenient method to pay their fines.” said Chief Judge Nancy Blount.

“This is yet another advancement in our court’s mission to improve accessibility, enhance convenience, and provide additional ancillary services to meet the growing needs of the citizens we serve,” she said. “Our team will continue to pursue the latest technology available to benefit the public, our employees, the bench and all of our justice system partners.”

Under kiosk network, officials said, some 100,000 people per month pay their electric, water, Wayne County delinquent taxes or current city of Detroit taxes as well as a variety of other bills, including personal property taxes and those from the Renter’s Escrow Program.

DivDat Kiosk locations can be found on the court’s website at www.36thdistrictcourt.org/.
