A ceremonial hearing was held recently in Macomb County Circuit Court to celebrate Adoption Day and encourage people to consider adopting a child. Among those on hand for the occasion were (from left) Mark Pellecchia, Macomb County adoption supervisor; Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano; and Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Matthew Switalski. The event was held in conjunction with the statewide celebration of Adoption Day. State officials said more than 1,900 children were adopted from the Michigan foster care system during fiscal year 2018. Switalski, who presided over the hearing during which a 10-month-old girl was adopted, called the annual event “the best day at the court. It’s a great day for everybody.”
