Koh to speak about Trump administration, international law Jan. 29 at Wayne Law
Harold Hongju Koh, former Yale Law School dean and legal advisor to the U.S. Department of State, will speak at Wayne State University Law School Tuesday, Jan. 29 on his new book, “The Trump Administration and International Law.”
Koh will discuss why President Donald Trump, in his first two years, is not “winning” in his effort to resign the United States from global leadership, and how the resistance is blunting his initiatives. His book also offers a counter-strategy to preserve the rule of law against the Trump administration’s many initiatives to change the nature of America’s relationship with international law and its institutions.
The event, presented by Wayne Law’s Program for International Legal Studies, will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the Law School, 471 W. Palmer St., in Lecture Hall 2242. The program is free, open to the public and lunch will be provided. Registration is requested at rsvp.wayne.edu/ haroldkoh19.
Koh is the Sterling Professor of International Law at Yale Law School and is one of the country’s leading experts in public and private international law, national security law and human rights. He returned to Yale Law School in January 2013 after serving for nearly four years as the 22nd Legal Adviser of the U.S. Department of State. He first began teaching at Yale Law School in 1985 and served as its fifteenth dean from 2004 until 2009. He earned his J.D. from Harvard
Law School, where he was Developments Editor of the Harvard Law Review.
36th District Court celebrates National Blood Donation Month
The 36th District Court announced today that in honor of National Blood Donation Month, the Court has partnered with the American Red Cross to hold a Blood Drive on Wednesday, January 30, 2019.
Judges, employees and other stakeholders have signed up through the Court’s Human Resources Department to schedule a time to donate and help save a life.
Chief Judge Nancy M. Blount stated, “According to the American Red Cross, there is an emergency need for donors. Typically, blood donations drop off during and after the busy holiday season. So, we thought it appropriate to hold our Blood Drive during the decline and in concert with National Blood Donation Month.”
Kelli Moore Owen, Court Administrator, commented, “We are always looking for opportunities to give back to the community we serve. Donating blood is one of the most generous gifts that we can give to others.”
For opportunities to donate or to host your own blood drive, please visit the American Red Cross at https://www.redcrossblood.org/.
