The polar vortex dropped some prodigiously cold temperatures and the lake kept showering down its “effect” to make this a winter week to to remember.
Many people got up in arms because Consumers Power and Gov. Whitmer asked them to lower their thermostats to 65 despite the Arctic temps. A fire on the Southeast side of the state disrupted supply infrastructure, so Consumers, with its large communications network, asked people to conserve in order to make existing supplies last. While many people legitimately feared pipes freezing, enough citizens complied to allow the request to be lifted as of Thursday afternoon (“all clear” issued at about 4:00) rather than continuing through Friday as originally requested.
Back on the roller coaster, temperatures are expected to be in the high 30’s/low 40s this weekend before winter returns next week.
