Judge Michael C. Chupa, a member of the 37th District Court bench in Warren since 2014, has been named president of the Macomb County District Court Judges Association for 2019.
Chupa was unanimously approved at the District Judges Association annual meeting last month.
“I’m humbled and honored to serve the association,” Chupa said. “I look forward to continuing my service to my community and the district courts across Macomb County.”
He replaces Judge Matthew Sabaugh, also of the 37th District Court in Warren and Center Line.
“We are operating in a period where a lot of dynamic changes are occurring in the court systems of Michigan,” Chupa said. “It is exciting to contribute in my own small way to dealing with the pressures, law changes and new technologies our fellow judges are being asked to deal with.”
The association meets two or three times each year to discuss any relevant legal issue or administrative matter, such as new orders from the state Supreme Court.
Chupa will run the meetings, organize educational conferences or other necessary meetings and serves as the association’s liaison with other entities.
The association consists of the 19 district court judges in the county.
The association president typically serves a one-year term of office.
Chupa was appointed by Gov. Rick Synder on Dec. 18, 2013, then elected to a full term on the bench in 2014.
His term expires in 2020.
