Viviano, Caretti re-appointed to Macomb's Business Court

The Michigan Supreme Court has re-appointed Macomb County Circuit Court Judges Kathy Viviano and Richard Caretti to handle the county’s business court docket.

Cases are assigned to that court if the amount in dispute is greater than $25,000 and all or part of the action includes a business or commercial dispute.

Business or commercial disputes are  defined  by  statute  (MCL  600.8031(c)).

Viviano and Caretti “have done an excellent job carrying on the mantle of the business docket at the 16th Judicial Circuit Court, since the retirement of former Chief Judge (and Business Court Judge) John  Foster,” said Chief Judge James M. Biernat Jr. “I am pleased  that they will be continuing  in their roles as Business  Court Judges for the next six years and congratulate them on a job well done with many of the court’s most complex civil cases.”

Their six-year terms run until April 1, 2025.

Caretti was named to the circuit court bench in 2002 and has been elected to three six-year terms.

Viviano was elected to the bench in 2010 and re-elected three years ago.

There are more than a dozen business courts in operation across the state. Macomb County was the first to implement such a docket in 2011.
