State Police seize boxes in probe of prosecutor’s spending
MOUNT CLEMENS (AP) — State police with a search warrant have removed boxes from the Macomb County prosecutor's office as part of an investigation of how money from forfeited assets was spent.
Lt. Darren Green said the search Wednesday was related to an investigation requested by Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Several county officials, including Executive Mark Hackel, have raised questions about how Prosecutor Eric Smith has spent thousands of dollars from assets tied to alleged crimes.
The money has been used to support certain charities and to pay for credit card bills and other expenses.
Smith has defended the spending, saying “every penny” has been spent to “enhance law enforcement.”
Health club’s appeal over transgender woman fails
MIDLAND (AP) — The state Supreme Court won’t intervene in a lawsuit over a transgender woman in the women’s locker room at a Midland health club.
Yvette Cormier was offended by the transgender woman. She says her membership at Planet Fitness was wrongly terminated in 2015 after she complained and warned other women at the club.
Planet Fitness told her that it allows people to use the locker room that matches their identity.
But Cormier says her rights under Michigan’s consumer-protection law were violated when the club didn’t disclose an unwritten policy about transgender members.
The state appeals court said Cormier’s case can go to trial. The state Supreme Court said that decision will stand.

PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Police say an unruly customer at a restaurant pulled an iguana from under his shirt, swung it around and threw it at the manager.
Painesville police were called to the Perkins restaurant around noon Tuesday.
Police say they apprehended the suspect a few blocks away in the city roughly 30 miles northeast of Cleveland. Authorities did not say what provoked the attack.
The 49-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and animal cruelty.
Police say the lizard, whom they named “Copper,” was taken to the Lake County Humane Society to be checked by a veterinarian.
