5 Wayne Law students receive Public Interest Law Fellowships
Five Wayne State University Law School students will gain experience and serve a variety of agencies this summer, thanks to the support of the 2019 Public Interest Law Fellowships.
The 2019 fellowship recipients and their organizations are:
• Meagan Dreher, second-year student — ACLU of Michigan;
• Elisabeth Moore, second-year student — Wayne County Prosecutor's Office;
• Katherine Olds, second-year student — Detroit Justice Center;
• Lauren Pereny, second-year student — Federal Defender Office; and
• Veronica Walrad, first-year student — Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender.
Each student will volunteer 40 hours a week for ten weeks, collectively providing more than 3,000 hours of service to organizations serving the public and under-represented individuals.
Wayne Law created the fellowships in 2009 to give students opportunities to gain practical experience in public interest law before graduation, ease student financial stresses and offer assistance to organizations providing legal services to underserved constituencies. Fellowship recipients are selected each year by a committee of Wayne Law faculty members, staff and alumni.
DBA Detroit Legal Services Clinic April 30
The Detroit Legal Services Clinic provides information and advice from volunteer attorneys in the areas of divorce, child support, domestic relations issues, expungements, self-representation, and general civil law. The clinic is from 12-3 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the Penobscot Building, 13th Floor, Smart Detroit Conference Rooms, 645 Griswold in Detroit. Volunteers may arrive at 11:30 a.m. for lunch.
