Jeffery S. Battershall, a partner with Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, was recently awarded a Carol Van Andel Angel of Excellence Award from Van Andel Institute.
Battershall was recognized for being a partner in advocacy and philanthropic support for VAI, which is an independent nonprofit biomedical research and science education organization committed to improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations. Recipients of the annual award are identified as individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to Van Andel Institute's mission through volunteer service and philanthropy.
"Van Andel Institute is fortunate to have very special individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to support our work," said Carol Van Andel. "We are thankful for these angels and their selfless gifts and are honored to place a spotlight on their efforts to educate, advocate and support the Institute's goal of transforming lives through discovery."
Battershall began working with VAI in 2005, representing the Institute on a wide variety of projects, including contracts, research collaboration agreements, intellectual property licensing, business transactions and other matters. Additionally, he served as interim general counsel and secretary to the board of trustees for two years.
Battershall concentrates his practice on health institutions, publicly traded companies and privately owned companies in the areas of contracts, general corporate law, transactions, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, licensing and distribution arrangements. He co-chairs the firm's Health Law Group. In 2017, Battershall was named the Grand Rapids Corporate Law Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers.
He serves on the advisory council for Albion College's Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and on the board of Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank.
