The City of Jackson currently has three openings for ex-officious members and would encourage community members to apply.
These positions are indefinite terms to serve alongside the Human Relations Commissioners. Those applying must be representatives of generally recognized community organizations, who can serve as resource persons and/or serve on committees. Ex-officio members have the right to participate in the proceedings of the commission but not have the right to vote.
The Human Relations Commission believes no person be denied the equal protection of the laws; nor shall any person be denied the enjoyment of his or her civil rights or be discriminated against because of their actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, height, weight, marital status, physical or mental disability, family status, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Special projects and events for the 2019-2020 fiscal year include the new Youth City Council to be implemented this coming school year, city wide Back to School Blast-Community Resource Fair, Harold White Sr. Diversity, Inclusion and Volunteer Awards, and the City Employee Diversity Study. The commission is also responsible for reviewing city complaints that are directly related to the HRC’s mission and responsibilities.
To apply, mail, deliver in person or email a resume and application found at https://www.cityofjackson.org/DocumentCenter/View/6408/NEW-Board-Application-2019.
