The Community Foundation announced last week that Laura Brownfield, an experienced trust and estates attorney, has joined the leadership team as general counsel. Brownfield will report to Mariam Noland, president of Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.
“We are thrilled that Laura Brownfield is joining the Community Foundation,” says Noland. “She’s an expert in her field and will bring strong leadership to working with our donors to carry out their charitable interests in perpetuity.”
In her new role, Brownfield will be responsible for collaborating with donors and their professional advisors on gift planning with the Community Foundation, assessing and managing legal issues, as well as working with the leadership to grow the Foundation and serve the community.
Brownfield most recently was part of the High Net Worth Practice Group at Bodman PLC. Before joining Bodman, she was a senior attorney and trust and estates practice leader at Plunkett Cooney. She also has experience as an educator, holding the position of clinical assistant professor of law at The University of Michigan Law School. For several years, Brownfield maintained her own firm where she practiced in the areas of estate planning, business planning, and real estate.
Brownfield is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit and is an active community member.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Miami University and her law degree from Wayne State University. Brownfield and her family reside in Bloomfield Township.
