Boy who died after football practice had heart condition
SARANAC (AP) — Officials say a western Michigan boy who died after collapsing during football practice had a heart condition.
Dr. David Start of the Kent County Medical Examiner's Office told WOOD-TV that Skylar Lasby suffered sudden cardiac death caused by an abnormal heartbeat.
The Saranac Community Schools 7th-grader collapsed Wednesday evening during a non-contact drill and died later at a hospital.
Start says the investigation continues but there were no signs of trauma or infection.
The 12-year-old is survived by his parents and several siblings.
The schools' Facebook page said a funeral was planned Wednesday at Saranac Junior/Senior High School.
Doctor charged with murder sues over coverage of legal costs
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio doctor charged with murder in the deaths of 25 hospital patients is suing his former employer's parent company for not covering the costs of his legal defense in the criminal case as it has in dozens of related civil cases.
William Husel's federal lawsuit argues his professional liability insurance should cover the defense expenses. His complaint says if Trinity Health Corporation's insurer won't advance his legal costs, it hurts his ability to defend himself.
The Columbus-area Mount Carmel Health System found Husel ordered excessive painkillers for dozens of patients over several years.
Husel pleaded not guilty. He argues he was trying to provide proper palliative care to dying patients, not trying to kill them.
Messages seeking comment were left for Livonia, MI-based Trinity Health.
Business groups request tarrifs delay before holidays
NEW YORK (AP) — A coalition of 161 manufacturers, farmers, retailers, natural gas and oil companies as well as other business groups, has signed a letter asking President Donald Trump to postpone tariff rate increases on Chinese goods slated to take effect this year.
The letter, dated Aug. 28 and organized by Americans for Free Trade Coalition, came as tariff increases were set to take effect over the weekend, followed by further increases Oct. 1 and Dec. 15.
The group says the tariffs come right in the middle of the busy holiday period and that action is needed to protect American businesses and consumers this holiday season.

HAMILTON, N.J. (AP) — Police in New Jersey say a possible carjacker apparently removed a sleeping 80-year-old woman from her parked car before stealing the vehicle and leaving her in the driveway.
Hamilton police say the woman told them she'd fallen asleep in her parked car in a driveway around 9 p.m. Wednesday, but woke to find the vehicle missing at around 4 a.m. on Thursday.
Police say the woman didn't remember what happened and had a bruise and abrasion on her face.
Authorities found the empty vehicle Thursday afternoon in Trenton.
No arrests were immediately made.
