The Dahlem Conservancy, aka “Jackson’s Nature Place,” celebrated the completion of Phase 1 of the Dahlem 2020 Initiative with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 16.
A family friendly restroom has been added, as well as a dedicated restroom for Little Acorn preschool pupils, and two existing restrooms were modernized.
The $100,000 cost was made possible in part by grants totaling $44,000 from the Pat and Phil Willis Foundation, Speckhard-Knight Foundation and Addison P Cook III Foundation. The balance came from Dahlem’s operating fund.
R W Mercer Company was the general contractor; Jason Covalle was the architect; the electrical contractor was Hirst Electric Company, and the plumbing contractor was Barton Plumbing and Heating. All are from Jackson County.
Dahlem was founded in 1976 when Dr. Betty Desbiens made a generous donation on behalf of herself and her siblings. The John and Mary Dahlem Environmental Education Center is named for their parents, who instilled in their children a love and respect for the out-of-doors.
