Woman gets jail for keeping boyfriend’s corpse in apartment
MONROE (AP) — A southeastern Michigan woman who authorities say kept the corpse of her 61-year-old boyfriend in their apartment and used his credit card has been sentenced to six months in jail.
The Monroe News reports 50-year-old Angela Shock was given her punishment recently after earlier pleading guilty to concealing a death and illegal use of a financial transaction device.
Shock apologized for her actions. She’s said her boyfriend was her only means of support.
Monroe police were called in April by a relative of the man who said his family hadn’t heard from him in several weeks. Officers attempting to check on him found his corpse at the apartment in Monroe.
Police said he died of medical issues a few weeks earlier.
School criticized for ending match early for fireworks
KENT, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio university has apologized for ending a women's field hockey match early to put on a football pregame fireworks show.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that Kent State University issued the apology Monday after being widely criticized for halting a match between the University of Maine and Temple University Saturday. Kent State hosted the game.
The school cited orders from the fire marshal to end the match by 10:30 a.m.
The teams were tied at zero in a second overtime period.
The Maine Director of Athletics said both teams were informed of potential timing issues with the pregame football activities, but added that no reference to a hard stop was made in the game contract.
Man calls police demanding they return stolen pot
SHARONVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A man confused about Ohio drug laws called a police department demanding that officers return the small amount of marijuana they “stole” from him.
WXIX-TV reports the man told a Sharonville police dispatcher in an expletive-laced call Tuesday that it’s legal to possess 100 grams of marijuana, and the amount officers seized was just 4 grams.
Police posted a recording of the call on their Facebook page. The suburban Cincinnati department wryly noted: “People may be a bit in the weeds, so we would like to take this opportunity to clear the haze.”
While some Ohio cities have decriminalized pot possession, it remains illegal in the state.
Sharonville police said they “don’t make the rules” but must uphold them.
